SCIENCE CLUBS
CdeC is an organization that aims to awaken and develop scientific interest in young people, through free workshops and mentoring offered by researchers from the best universities in the world.
HISTORY
CdeC was founded in 2014 by Mexican doctoral candidates from Harvard and MIT with the mission to “expand access to high-quality science education, inspire and mentor future generations of researchers through a network of scientific collaboration”. Within a year, the project expanded to Colombia and Bolivia, having trained 4,500 students. In 2017, as part of the expansion project, Science Clubs arrived in Brazil, Paraguay and Peru and is now present in 9 countries, in which more than 15 thousand students have been trained by more than 1000 instructors. In 2020, Science Clubs International was created, a non-governmental organization that brings together all Science Clubs around the world
Impact
MISSION AND VALUES
Apply totheory of scientific method and practice, stimulating critical and analytical thinking in problem solving.
Increased diversity in the scientific environment. Showing that underrepresented minorities in society and the academic community can also qualify as scientists now and in the future.
Collaborate indissemination of science to the target audience and involved community, inspiring and guiding students through ongoing mentoring after courses and multiplying the effect of learning on the students' community.
Establish a bridgeconnection between institutions of excellence abroad and higher education and research institutions in Brazil through its researchers and its scientific community.
Serve as examples (‘role models’) to students, demystifying the image of the “crazy” and distant scientist.
Increase the insertion and visibility of the institution on different scales, as well as its courses in the areas of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) to explore different areas of knowledge.
Integrate and foster a network of civil and legal entities interested in improving teaching and the relevance of scientific research and innovation. We seek to hold symposiums with partners, researchers and collaborators, allowing the interaction of companies and people who have common interests with each other and with teaching and research institutions in Brazil and abroad.
"The selected students represent the diversity, quality and interest of Brazilian students in Science!"
CLUBES DE CIENCIA BRASIL
CdeC Br METHODOLOGY
1
SELECTIVE PROCESS
To participate in the clubs, high school and college students must go through a selection process that assesses their motivation and interest in the areas of knowledge offered. The clubs are taught by nationally and internationally renowned professors and researchers, who share their experiences and challenges with students.
2
SCIENTIFIC METHOD
The scientific method is a way of investigating the natural world based on observations, questions, hypotheses, experiments, and conclusions. In Clubes de Ciência Brasil workshops, students learn to apply the scientific method in different areas of knowledge, such as biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The workshops are taught by renowned scientists and teachers, who stimulate students' interest and curiosity in science.
3
LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS
One of the clubs' activities are lectures and workshops, free events where professionals and students from different areas share their knowledge, experiences and projects with CdeC Br students. Lectures and workshops are an opportunity to learn about current and relevant topics, interact with experts and be inspired to pursue a scientific career.
